About the Writer
El Chambi is a Spanish-born eco-ethologist specializing in large carnivores and the complex relationships they maintain with ecosystems and human communities. Raised in the city of Granada and now based in the Pacific Northwest, Fernando draws from both scientific training and lived experience across continents to explore how stories, landscapes, and species intertwine.
With a degree in Fisheries, Wildlife, and Conservation Sciences from Oregon State University, his work weaves together rigorous research, field encounters, and cultural memory. His passion for wolves was reignited while living with his family inside Grand Teton National Park. This transformative chapter set him on the path toward understanding apex predators not just as species, but as teachers.
El Chambi writes with a commitment to bridge worlds: science and story, human and non-human, tradition and innovation. His voice emerges from a place of exile, migration, and reconnection, where the howl of a wolf might echo the grief of a grandmother, or the resilience of a forest might mirror the strength of a community.
Through this project, he invites readers to listen more deeply to the wild, and consequently, to themselves.
